Description
An infinitely complex Breton yellow tea.
This Grand Cru presents a fascinating bouquet where milky and buttery notes intertw with a poetic floral spectrum of mimosa and violet, rounded out by fresh vegetal and briny nuances characteristic of the Armorican terroir. Upon steeping, this yellow tea reveals a light green liquor with a smooth, velvety texture and a gentle sweetness.
Produced at the Filleule des Fées tea garden in the heart of the Blavet valley in Morbihan, this French yellow tea is a true feat of craftsmanship. Loosely inspired by the age-old expertise of Hunan province in China, growers Denis and Weizi Mazerolle crafted this Grand Cru by adapting ancestral techniques to the Breton terroir, notably by using cheesecloth. A complete rarity within Europe.
Harvested using meticulous plucking standards (one bud and two leaves), this tea undergoes high-precision processing centered around the traditional double smothering technique (Men Huang). After a night of withering and wok fixation at high temperature, the leaves are wrapped while still hot in cheesecloth—twice! This slow, controlled micro-fermentation gives the tea its unique aromatic profile and subtle highlights.
A Century-Old Botanical Heritage
This Grand Cru derives its nobility from the trévarez cultivar, born out of a remarkable botanical investigation. Exploring regional estates known for housing some 700 camellia varieties planted since the late 19th century, the growers discovered a century-old tea plant (Camellia sinensis) at the Château de Trévarez that had fully acclimatized to the Breton soil. Propagated through seeds and cuttings, this precious specimen now thrives at the Filleule des Fées estate in Brittany.
