Description

A rare tea from an exceptional terroir in the heart of Brittany.

This Breton Grand Cru reveals a warm and indulgence-rich profile where honeyed notes, nuances of fruit, cocoa, and a touch of spice reminiscent of gingerbread intermingle. Upon steeping, it reveals a golden liquor with a round texture and naturally sweet flavor.

Cultivated in the lush green setting of the Blavet Valley in Morbihan, this extraordinarily rare black tea bears witness to the emergence of a remarkably rich French terroir. Thanks to the ideal humidity and natural acidity of Breton soils, the tea plants thrive in perfect conditions to offer a Grand Cru with a remarkable aromatic profile.

At the "Filleule des Fées" tea garden, producers Denis and Weizi Mazerolle tend to tea plants aged 4 to 9 years old, derived from a unique blend: 30% of the Trévarez cultivar native to Finistère, 30% of Chinese cultivars, complemented by plants grown from Georgian and Turkish seeds. Crafted with passion, this tea undergoes fine plucking (one bud and two leaves) followed by delicate rolling of the leaves.

A botanical investigation and a French cultivar

Rather than immediately importing foreign varieties, Denis and Weizi Mazerolle conducted their own botanical investigation throughout estates in Morbihan. Exploring these sites—renowned for their historical collections of some 700 camellia varieties planted since the late 19th century, led them to a major discovery at the Château de Trévarez: a tea plant (Camellia sinensis) over a century old, perfectly acclimatized to the region's soil and climate.

From the seeds and cuttings of this exceptional specimen, they propagated perfectly acclimatized tea plants, laying the foundation of their estate. After surviving for over a century in the secrecy of the château's gardens, this French cultivar now fully thrives on this Breton terroir, permanently anchoring its legacy within the Filleule des Fées estate and lending its nobility to this black tea blend.
