A Matcha Essential
This bamboo spatula, known as a chashaku in Japanese, is one of the essential tools used in the matcha tea ceremony. It allows you to measure the perfect amount of matcha powder: for a ceremonial bowl, use 2 scoops and 5cl of water; for a matcha latte, simply add 10cl of milk.
Matcha is a green tea whose leaves have been ground into a very fine powder. Therefore, it is not steeped but whisked, using a whisk, a bowl, and a spatula. To enjoy the full creaminess and sweetness of matcha, it should be consumed immediately after preparation.
